Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument

Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands – Facilitation of Management Plan and Federal NEPA and State HRS 343 EA Preparation

In 2008, Peter Young represented the State of Hawaiʻi and served on a core, three-member committee that included Washington, DC senior leadership from the Department of Interior and Department of Commerce to assist with coordination and resolution of matters in the preparation of the Monument Management Plan and Federal NEPA and State HRS 343 Environmental Assessment.

In representing the State of Hawaiʻi, Peter Young:

  • Facilitated the development of the remaining State of Hawaiʻi components in the draft Monument Management Plan and associated environmental compliance for the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands
  • Coordinated higher-level discussions between the State and federal agencies to resolve specific remaining policy differences and legal issues so as to ensure timely completion of the document
  • Assured that the State components were integrated with those being developed by the federal agency co-trustees
